The cutest cupcake!

Monday morning held a special treat for Amy and the tots at 2: Cool for School when halfway through the morning Explorers Club old pro Cole stopped by with her mom and new baby sister! At three and a half years old Cole is an active healthy toddler with not a roll to spare, but at 9 months she was a chubster indeed. It came as no surprise that little sis Adelaide, who she last saw as a newborn, now has one roll in each leg for every one of her 9 months of life! Mama Mercedes, who had brought the girls to Brooklyn to hang with old friends for a day away from their second home upstate, lovingly refers to her younger daughter as a human cupcake, and as pink and sweet as she is, there couldn't be a truer comparison. While upstate Cole and her family have been enjoying the great outdoors and all that nature has to offer, but she still mentions her old Explorers club teachers from time to time, calling Kayla, her new teacher, "not Gayla," which will be sure to warm the heart of former Explorers Club teacher Gayla when she hears about it.
After days of rainy forecasts yesterday's lunchtime downpour was much-needed and even welcomed by city-dwellers whose air conditioners, fans and scant clothing have provided only the smallest amount of comfort during the oppressive heatwave of the last two weeks. Nonetheless, we're glad that Cole's visit to her old Prospect Heights stomping grounds took place on a day dry enough to allow her to enjoy all of her fave outdoor haunts.
Unfortunately yesterday's Summer Camp Senior Explorers weren't as lucky as were Tuesday's. After a moderately-warm day at the Queens Zoo on Tuesday, which counselor Sam claimed puts the Prospect Park Zoo to shame (Full disclosure: Sam does live in Queens himself and so may be a bit biased toward his home borough!, yesterday's planned trip to the Bronx to visit the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum was put on ice as sheets of rain and crashes of thunder sent the crew of cuties to Manhattan's Sony Wonder Technology Lab for some indoor techie fun at the foul-weather standby.
